Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — A Storm Lake man is arrested after driving erratically.
On Thursday morning, Storm Lake Police were dispatched to the Storm Lake Elementary School in the 1800 block of Hyland Drive in reference to a reported reckless driver.
Responding officers were advised that a gray Toyota mini van was allegedly driving in a reckless manner and had dropped off a student at the school and left the area.
The vehicle was seen heading east on West 5th Street swerving into the westbound lane. Police stopped the vehicle, and talked to the driver, 43-year old Jorge Mendoza.
Police allege that Mendoza was heavily impaired on a substance other than alcohol, and had a 3-year old child was in the back seat of the vehicle, while driving erratically.  Police took the child into protective custody and turned her over to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
Mendoza was arrested and charged with OWI and 2 counts of Child Endangerment.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000.00 cash bond.
