Storm Lake House Fire

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–A young child playing with a lighter led to a house fire in Storm Lake this weekend.

Storm Lake Firefighters were called to 201 Superior Street shortly after 10:30 Saturday morning. They encountered heavy smoke with a fire burning in a second floor bedroom which was extinguished. All of the occupants escaped from the home uninjured.

An investigation determined that the cause of the fire was a young child playing with a lighter which caught clothing on fire in a bedroom closet and spread into the bedroom.

The residence sustained fire, smoke and water damage to the second floor and water damage to the first floor to the tune of $20,000. The fire department was on scene for approximately 1.25 hours
