Storm Lake House Fire

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–A Storm Lake woman was treated for smoke inhalation following a Sunday afternoon house fire.
The Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 1013 North Michigan Street at 4:25 and arrived to find  black smoke coming from the basement of the residence. The lone occupant, 68-year-old Graciela Arambula, had escaped from the home and went to a neighbor’s.
Fire fighters entered the residence and extinguished a fire burning in the basement in the furnace and attached ducting. Fire damage was limited to the furnace with moderate smoke damage to the residence. Damage is estimated at $2,500.  The fire is believed to have started in the furnace caused by a mechanical malfunction.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and Buena Vista County Paramedics.
