Calumet, IA (KICD) — A Thursday evening fire destroyed two storage buildings northwest of Calumet.
Early Thursday evening, the Calumet Fire Department responded to a fire at 6146 460th Street.  Fire Chief Mike Jensen said upon arrival, firefighters saw the two storage buildings engulfed in flames.  A grass fire was also observed in the grove and the ditch at the location.  Fire Departments from Paullina and Sutherland were then called in for assistance.
The crews from Paullina extinguished the grass fire, while the Sutherland crew extinguished the building fires.  The cause of the fire is believe to have been some sacks that were burned earlier, that may have been blown around in the wind, and ignited the fire.  A hog confinement on the property was not damaged, but the two storage building were considered a total loss.
Firefighters were on scene for around 2 and a half hours, and used approximately 9000 gallons of water to fight the fires.
