Spencer, IA (KICD) — A car vs semi accident claimed the life of a Spencer teen.
Around 5 Friday afternoon, Spencer Police said the accident occurred at the intersection of West 18th Street and Country Club Lane. 18-year-old Elizabeth Kyte was driving a 2006 Chevy Malibu northbound on Country Club Lane and was attempting to make a right turn onto West 18th Street.
The Chevy was struck by an eastbound 2000 International semi, driven by 52-year old Darrel Kramer of Spencer. Kyte was pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers, 50-year-old Tamara Kyte and 22-month-old Seth Kyte were both transported to the Spencer Hospital and later airlifted to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Tamara is listed in stable condition, while Seth Kyte has since been released. Kramer was transported to Spencer Hospital by ambulance and was released. Assisting at the scene was the Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Sheriffs Office, Spencer Fire & Rescue, Fostoria Fire & Rescue, the Iowa Department of Transportation and Spencer Public Works.
