Spencer, IA (KICD)–Monday night’s Spencer City Council meeting featured approval of a $6,000 donation to the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 Flag Replacement Project.

Former Post Commander Bob Faulkender says this tops off their fundraising efforts.

Faulkender says they maintain 250 American flags and 50 state flags.

The council passed a number of items in relation to the paving portion of the 2014 Fairway Woods First addition project.  The project calls for a 31 foot wide street that is 6 inches thick. The estimated cost is $245,000. Bids will be taken on February 3rd.

A resolution awarding 3 Contracts for Spencer Police Department Relocation Project was approved including Christians Sheet Metal for HVAC at $15,000: Joe Froiland Plumbing and Heating for Plumbing at $7,860 and Toft Electric for Electric Construction for $16,853.
A pair of agreements between Shine Brothers, TJN Enterprises,  the city of Spencer, and Iowa Economic Development Authority for a 90,000 and 8,000 square foot building were approved.  The agreements call for assistance from the State of Iowa to TJN and Shine Brothers  in the amount of $644,750 and $78,500 for each project. The City has pledged 10 years of tax abatement to these projects as well.
