Spencer, IA (KICD)–The Spencer City Council will meet tonight.

Prior to the regular session is a Progress & Development Committee meeting to discuss a recent request to purchase a piece of city owned property near Leach Park. The land in question is the strip of land that is located on the corner of Highway 71 and 4th Street Southeast.

The regular meeting will open with an update from the Parker Historical Society on their Celebrate Baseball Event.

A public hearing on the sale of a portion of the Green Industrial Center to Corn Belt Power Cooperative is on the docket. Under the proposed agreement the city would sell the land to Corn Belt at a rate of $10,000 per acre for a total of $32,600. The land will be used for a substation. The proceeds from the sale will be used for the expenses pertaining to maintaining and marketing the existing Spec Building or the general promotion of development in the Green Industrial Park.

Tonight’s Progress & Development Committee meeting starts at 6:00 and is followed by the regular Council session at 6:30 in the Council Chambers of Spencer City Hall.
