Spencer, IA (KICD)–Monday night marked the final regular city council meeting that Spencer Police Chief Mark Lawson will be a part of in that role.

Lawson, who is set to retire at the end of this month spoke to the council at the end of the meeting.

Lawson thanked the city council and Mayor for being able to “think outside the box.”

A public retirement reception for Lawson will be held from 4-6 p.m. on March 31st at the Spencer Municipal Golf Course Clubhouse with a presentation at 4:30.

Lt. Mark Warburton was appointed last night by Mayor Reynold Peterson to serve as interim Police Chief, effective April 1st, after Mark Lawson retires at the end of the month.

Parks Director Delray Bredehoft was pleased to talk about the approximate $44,000 cost for the East Leach Park Lighting Project which came in well under the $60,000 budget.

A bid of over $159,000 for the 2014 HMA Overlay Project was awarded to Tri-State Paving. The project area consists of East 8th Street from 1st Ave to 4th Ave., 6th Ave E. from 2nd Street to 3rd Street, 2nd Ave. West from 6th Street to 7th Street and 5th Street S.E. from South Grand to 1st Ave. The estimated cost was over $157,000.
