“Scooter” Zahrt Passes

Spencer, IA (KICD)–A former KICD announcer passed away this past Thursday at the age of 81.

Dave Potratz tells KICD News he first met Darwin “Scooter” Zahrt when he was working a night shift in the late 60′s when Zahrt ran the old drive in theater.

Potratz also knew the lighter side of “Scooter.”

Zahrt taught school and coached at Cornell, Central of Fenton and Sioux Valley before moving to Spencer where he was an educator for the Spencer Community school system for many years. He and his wife Ann were instrumental in the immigration and continued care of several Laotian families to northwest Iowa and Zahrt also served as a member of the Clay County Board of Supervisors.
