Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)–A day years in the making occurred Wednesday in Emmetsburg.
The grand opening of Project Liberty, $250 million plant that will make 25 million gallons of ethanol a year from corn cobs, stalks, leaves and other plant residue took place. POET D-S-M CEO Jeff Broin says he remembers as a teen, his father experimenting with ethanol production.
POET has partnered with Netherlands-based DSM Royal, whose CEO Feike Sijbesma says that preservation and protection of the world’s resources for generations to come is vital.
Sijbesma says while the production process is now licensed in the U-S, they hope it could eventually go global.
