Spencer, IA (KICD)–The search process for a new Spencer Police Chief was discussed Tuesday by the Public Safety Committee.
Mark Lawson is currently slated to retire by the end of April.  The city has hired a search firm at a cost of $19,500 to help identify top candidates.  Qualified candidates must have at least a two year degree, preferably in criminal justice, and must have at least five years of supervisory experience.  Up to $80,000 has been budgeted for an opening salary.
Candidates names will only be released once they are considered finalists with a new chief to be in place by July 1st.  Mayor Reynold Peterson noted that he is currently leaning towards appointing Lt. Mark Warburton as interim chief once Lawson has retired.
Official action on this plan is set for the next city council regular meeting.
