Perry Martinson Passes

Spencer, IA (KICD) — One of the legendary voices of KICD radio has passed away.

Perry Martinson was known for many different sayings on the air over the years, this being one of them…

He often referred to himself as “PM in the AM” and inherited the nickname “Sleepy-head” both on air and off.

Martinson began working for KICD-AM in 1964 announcing during the morning show, which included hosting the popular contest Quiz Biz and the call in show “You Said it.” In 1980, Martinson was promoted to Sports Director and did play-by-play of many local high school sporting events.

Spencer resident and businessman John Cotton, worked alongside Perry many times doing commentary of games. He said they shared many good times and laughs…

Martinson also owned Sportsman’s in downtown Spencer for six years. During his radio career he also worked at stations in Florida and Mason City.

Perry Martinson passed away unexpectedly Wednesday. The last several years he had been living in Camden, Delaware. He was 79.
