Okoboji Foundation Announces Awards

Okoboji, IA (OF)–The Okoboji Foundation is the center point of community giving for vital capital projects.  In the past 25 years the Foundation has awarded $2,610,163 in grants to 65 different nonprofit organizations.

In 2014 the Okoboji Foundation received 10 grant requests totalling $612,439.  Proceeds from Okoboji Foundation endowments provided $150,000 for awards.  The Youth in Philanthropy initiative raised an additional $20,500 in annual funds for grants steered by student decision.  On Monday, May 19th, the Okoboji Foundation Board approved grant awards.

2014 Okoboji Foundation Grant Awards:
$75,000 to Bedell Family YMCA Facility Expansion for Youth Center
$50,000 to Dickinson County Trails for last section around West Lake removed from Hwy 86
$25,000 to Lakes Area Hockey for ice arena access road, lighting and paved handicapped parking

2014 Youth in Philanthropy Grants steered by student decision:
$11,500 to Pearson Lakes Art Center Performance Technology Upgrades
$9,000 to Humane Society of NW Iowa for Kennel, Cattery & Entry Doors

President Mary Freiborg commented about the increase in funding, “In our first 25 years, the Foundation averaged about $100,000 per year for awards.  As a result of our 25th Anniversary Endowment Campaign, we are able to increase the total award amount by $50,000 for 2014.  This growth gives us a greater ability to make a lasting positive impact with significant capital projects each year.”
The Okoboji Foundation continues to expand resources for vital capital projects with the Lakes Dinner Table Event on Friday, June 27th.  Event Sponsor West O Beer will give each sponsoring couple a Growler with special refill privileges.  This 7-course Culinary Experience features smoked beef tenderloin and pork loin by Dr. Hartje’s Hawg Be Gone BBQ Team and mouthwatering culinary displays served family style at one continuous flowing table.
