Netherlands King To Emmetsburg

Emmetsburg, IA (KICD) — Emmetsburg is going to have a special guest at their ethanol plant grand opening.

It was announced this week that Willem-Alexander, the King of The Netherlands plans to attend the September 3rd grand opening of the Project Liberty Ethanol Plant in Emmetsburg and tour the facility. The plant is co-owned by a Netherlands-based company.

Sioux Falls-based ethanol maker Poet and Royal DSM, a biotechnology company based in the Netherlands teamed up to produce The $250 million project. The plant will produce 25 million gallons a year when fully operational.

As previously told by KICD News It is the first facility in Iowa to begin making ethanol from plant material. Cellulosic ethanol is made from various parts of plants including corn cobs, stalks, leaves and other residue.
