Cylinder, IA (KICD)–A portion of Highway 18 east of Emmetsburg was shut down for three and a half hours on Friday.
Palo Alto County Deputies were called to a fire at 510th Avenue and 380th Street at 11:15 Friday morning. Jeffrey Berkland of Okoboji was heading west in a 2000 Peterbuilt semi pulling a flatbed trailer when his cornstalk bales became fully engulfed in flames. Berkland was able to pull of onto the side of the road.
Emmetsburg and Cylinder Fire Fighter responded and began pumping water onto the bales and the trailer was off-loaded into the north ditch. The bales were eventually spread out into the south ditch. Highway 18 was closed until approximately 2:45 p.m. due to the smoke and road clean-up.
Palo Alto County Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa DOT assisted on scene.
Sioux Center, IA (KICD)–A Sioux Center teen was injured in a Thursday morning collision northeast of Sioux Center.
15-year-old Katherine Fictorie was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero southbound on Hickory
Avenue. She stopped for the stop sign at 370th Street. 25-year-old Lucas Hitz of Orange City was driving a 2006
Chevrolet Silverado westbound on 370th Street. Fictorie continued driving southbound across 370th street
when she was struck by Hitz.
Fictorie was transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to the Sioux Center Hospital for treatment of minor
injuries. She was cited for failing to obey stop sign.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department.
Rock Valley, IA (KICD)–A Sioux Center man was taken to the hospital following a Thursday afternoon accident south of Rock Valley.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 67-year-old Larry Ulrich of North Dakota was was driving a 2010 Kenworth semi‐tractor pulling a cattle trailer northbound
on Elmwood Avenue at 1:50 p.m. 27-year-old Travis Van Regenmorter was also heading north in a 2003 Ford F‐250
behind Ulrich and he struck the rear of the cattle trailer
on the roadway.
Van Regenmorter was transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by private vehicle for treatment of minor
The accident remains under investigation.
