Latest On Police Chief Search

Spencer, IA (KICD)–The search for Spencer’s next Police Chief took another step forward this week with the approval of hiring a search firm.
Some in the community have questioned the $19,500 fee for Moulder and Associates and Cayler Consulting.  City Manager Bob Fagen says Spencer is the 28th largest city in Iowa and finding the right fit requires an extensive search.  The appointment of a new Police Chief falls under the duties of Mayor Reynold Peterson.

Peterson says there are many qualified candidates on the Spencer Police Force, but the city should take a look at all qualified candidates.

Peterson has noted that he is currently leaning towards appointing Lt. Mark Warburton as interim chief once current Chief Mark Lawson retires in April.  Up to $80,000 has been budgeted for an opening salary.
Candidates names will only be released once they are considered finalists with a new chief to be in place by July 1st.
