Rock Valley, IA (KICD)–The City of Rock Valley is reporting that the man made berms constructed over the past two days held overnight and the river has begun to recede.

The Rock River is projected to slowly drop today. The manmade berms may not be removed under any condition. Streets may have been undermined in the flooded areas and no vehicles are permitted to drive in those areas. Homeowners are cautioned not to begin pumping out their basements because of the strong possibility they will collapse their basement walls. Residents and volunteers are encouraged not to work in the water because of health concerns regarding the quality of the water and those who have been working in the water the past two days are encouraged to make sure their tetanus shots are up to date.

No volunteers are needed at this time until the water has receded below flood stage and it is safe to begin the clean up process.
