Spencer, IA: (May 01, 2014) – Controversy bubbled at a U.S. House livestock hearing on Wednesday on the Renewable Fuel Standard and its impact on feed prices. On the attack were southern and western lawmakers, like California Representative Jim Costa, who blamed recent high livestock feed costs on corn-based ethanol.
Iowa 4th District Congressman Steve King defended corn-based ethanol, saying byproducts like DDGs have offset feed cost impacts.
King estimates that nearly one-fourth of the liquid fuel used in gas-burning vehicles is now ethanol.
