Iowa Pork Producers Win Beef-Eating Contest

Spencer, IA: (May 21, 2014) – Thirteen teams completed at Tuesday’s beef eating contest, sponsored by the Clay County Cattlemen’s Association. The annual event was held at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer in recognition of “May, Beef Month.”

The First Place team, the Iowa Pork Producers, featured Greg Lear and Bill Tentinger, both past presidents of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. They consumed 4.775 pounds of rib-eye steak. They edged out last year’s winning team, the Clay County Cattlemen, by just 0.016 pounds. They Cattlemen were represented by Tom Hagedorn and Chad Sorenson.

The third place team, Co-products, was represented by Adam Kraninger and Aaron Giese.

One dollar was donated to Spencer Food for Life for every ounce of steak eaten. Clay County Cattlemen’s President Mike Juza says a donation of nearly $803 will be made this year.
