Icy Conditions Causing Accidents

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) — Icy road conditions are causing several accidents in parts of the broadcast area.
After the temperature rose to 37 degrees in Spencer during the morning hours today, a cold front swept through, causing temperatures to fall down into the 20s, cuasing snow blowing onto the roads to melt, then refreeze.  Those icy conditions are the cause for numerous accidents being reported.
The Dickinson County Sheriffs Office said one of those accidents occurred on Highway 71 between Fostoria and Milford this morning, as two semi’s went out of control and jackknifed, partially blocking the lanes.  there was no report of any injuries in the incident.  Secondary roads are especially treacherous with the freezing of the precipitation on the roads.
Extreme caution is advised while driving, in preparation of encountering the sudden icy conditions around the broadcast area.
