Hog Seller Jailed

Hog Seller Jailed

Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — A Newell man gets jail time after a guilty plea.

44-year old Monty Grote received the 30 day sentence after pleading guilty to selling 195 hogs he didn’t own. Grote also must pay restitution of over $14,000. He received probation as well, at the Friday Buena Vista County District Court appearance. The plea was to three 3rd degree theft charges. Two year prison sentences were suspended on two of the charges, and there was a 4th degree theft charge dismissed.

Court documents showed Grote was contracted to raise pigs from a Minnesota company, but then sold them, saying he owned them.
