Highway 9 and 4 Safety Upgrades

Highway 9 and 4 Safety Upgrades

Estherville, IA (KICD)– A heavily traveled intersection in Estherville is in line for some safety upgrades.

City Manager Penny Clayton tells KICD News that they recently participated in a traffic engineering assistance program with the Iowa DOT concerning the intersection of Highways 9 and 4.

The new crosswalks were painted last week and there is no firm timeline in place for installing pedestrian signal heads and push buttons. Reconfiguration of the north and southbound lanes including the installation of a dedicated left turn lane will be studied in the future.

A pedestrian was killed in an accident at the intersection of Highways 9 and 4 last year.
