Jackson County, MN (KICD)– Motorists on Highway 86 traveling across Interstate 90 can expect a detour starting today as crews begin to update the bridge over Interstate 90.
Rebecca Arndt with the Minnesota DOT tells KICD News that traffic will be detoured to Jackson County Roads 34, 17 and 14. The detour adds approximately 8 miles and will be in place until late August.
In mid-August, the resurfacing of Highway 86 from the Iowa state line to Interstate 90 will begin. No detour is required, but motorists can expect brief delays and use caution in the area of flaggers.
This project, which should be completed in late September, includes a mill and overlay to preserve the pavement and provide a smooth ride as well as extend the life of the bridge over I-90 by replacing drainage structures, bridge railings, deck and expansion joints.
The state is also replacing and adding highway right of way limit marker signs every 400 feet along Highway 86 from the Iowa to I-90
