Hartley Police Chief Firing

Hartley Police Chief Firing

Hartley, IA (KICD)–There is a bit of an uproar over the recent firing of Hartley’s Police Chief.
Mark Younie tells KICD News that he was surprised to learn of his firing last Friday by Mayor Clayton Pyle.

Younie, says that while it is well within the scope of the Mayor’s duties to hire and fire a Police Chief, he does not agree with the decision.

Younie says he has been overwhelmed with support by citizens.

Younie had served as Police Chief in Hartley for the past two years.
Younie has requested a public hearing and city staff is currently working on a date for the hearing which must occur in the next 30 days.  After the hearing the city council can overturn the Mayor’s ruling by a simple majority if they so choose.
KICD News has attempted to make contact with Mayor Pyle, however those attempts have not been successful .
