Handsaker Plea


Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) – A Spirit Lake man pleaded guilty in court in the death of a Jackson woman.
In Dickinson County District Court (this) Monday morning, Tailer Handsaker pled guilty to charges of 2nd degree murder and two counts of willful injury.
The charges are the result of the death of Sara Grimmius of Jackson, Minnesota, in December 2013, at a home near Spirit Lake.Handsaker was sentenced to no more than 50 years in prison, and must serve at least 35 years before being eligible for parole.  On each of the willful injury counts, he received a term of no more than 10 years on each charge, with all the prison terms to be served consecutively, with credit for time already served.

Handsaker admitted in court, that he struck Grimmius in the face, skull and in the arm with a pool cue and a golf club.

Her body was found later on at the residence.  Judge Nancy Whittenberg handed down the sentencing.
