Grand Opening Announced For Cellulosic Ethanol Plant

Emmetsburg, IA: (Aug 15, 2014) – POET-DSM’s Project Liberty will open its doors to the public at a Grand Opening celebration on Wednesday, September 3rd at the site near Emmetsburg.

Spokesman Matt Merritt says the Grand Opening will feature plant tours, a formal ceremony and a flyover by the ethanol-powered Vanguard Squadron. Merritt says the public is invited to attend.

Project Liberty will be the first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in the country. Initially, the plant will convert 770 tons of corn cobs, leaves and husks each day to produce 20 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol in its first year of operation, later ramping up to 25 million gallons per year.

Emmetsburg’s Project Liberty will be the flagship plant in POET-DSM’s plan to license the technology to companies around the world.
