Flagfest Fundraising Shortage

Flagfest Fundraising Shortage

Spencer, IA (KICD)–The 30th annual Flagfest celebration is struggling with sponsorship funding to carry out many of their events.

Spencer Chamber Executive Director Bill Campbell tells KICD News nearly $9,000 still needs to be raised to cover the cost of contracted activities including the dance, parade, amusements and more.

A group of 15 including Chamber Board and Staff, Flagfest volunteers and past business supporters has discussed many scenarios including eliminating or downsizing events, or possibly charging for activities that have been free in the past. They also talked about, without community support, what Flagfest might look like in coming years.

Campbell also talked about a pair of attractions for this year.

Any business, organization, or individual who would like to make a donation to Flagfest should get in touch with the Spencer Chamber of Commerce. The sooner, the better as the 15,000 Flagfest brochures, with sponsor names included in them, will be going to the presses soon
