Fatal Accident In Palo Alto County

Ruthven, IA (KICD)–One person was killed and two others were injured following a Monday evening accident.
The Iowa State Patrol says 26-year-old Novo Lagao of Oskaloosa was heading west on Highway 18 leaving the city limits of Ruthven at 7:20 last night.  It was snowing and the road was covered with a thin layer of snow.  Lagao’s right side rear tires hit the shoulder of the highway causing him to lose control.  He attempted to steer the car back onto the roadway and collided head on with a vehicle driven by 51-year-old Kevin Bahm of Winner, South Dakota.
Bahm was pronounced dead on scene.  Lagao was taken to Palo Alto County Hospital with minor injuries.  Lagao’s passenger, 46-year-old Ricardo Urtado of Eldon, was taken to the hospital with incapacitating injuries.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Ruthven Fire Department, and ambulance crews from Emmetsburg, Ruthven, and Spencer assisted on scene.
