Estherville, IA (KICD) — An Estherville man is arrested in a car burglary case.
Early Wednesday morning, Estherville Police responded to a car burglary report. The complaintant advised that sometime overnight, his vehicle was broken into and a wallet was stolen from it. Officers also took a report from the next door neighbor, who reported someone was inside his garage, and there were footprints in the snow. Police officers on scene gathered evidence and tracked the suspect to his residence.
Upon arrival, officers located a large amount of property in the yard that they believed had been taken in other burglaries that night, and found the suspect had entered another garage, as well.
While securing the residence and getting a search warrant, the suspect, 30-year old Jeremy VanTrump arrived at the house, and was then arrested. He was in possession of items stolen from Hy-Vee. Officers then executed the search warrant on the residence, and immediately found drug paraphernalia.
A second search warrant for illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia was obtained. During the search, officers located stolen property from the initial reported car burglary, items taken from additional car burglaries, items stolen from at least one garage, drug paraphernalia, and approximately one half pound of marijuana.
VanTrump was taken to the Law Enforcement Center, and was eventually booked into the Emmet County Jail, and charged with 2 counts of 3rd Degree Burglary, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver, and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, all class D felonies, along with 4 counts of Burglary to a Motor Vehicle, Possession of an Unlawful Prescription, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 5th Degree Theft.
VanTrump remains in the Emmet County Jail, on a $42,000 cash or surety bond.
