Clay County Weather Aftermath

Spencer, IA (KICD)–Road conditions in Clay County are the worst in the southeast corner and get better as you traverse to the northwest corner.

Clay County Engineer Scott Rinehart says that has been the case all Spring and this recent rainfall has exacerbated the issue.

Rinehart says there has been 700-800 road washouts with roughly 50-60 roadways still closed in Clay County.

Rinehart believes that Clay County will eventually be declared a disaster area and haveĀ a good portion of the repair costs paid for, but if that does not come the cost will be worked into the County budget.

An optimistic forecast has 400th Street back open by the end of next week and all work across the County complete in 6-8 weeks.
