Child Calls 911

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– A 3-year-old boy is being credited with calling 911 and stopping the sexual abuse of his mother.

Shortly before 1:30 this (Tuesday) morning Storm Lake Police were called out to a 911 call with an open phone line. Police learned that 30-year-old Denis Reyes of Storm Lake had allegedly just come to the apartment and once let inside, sexually assaulted the victim in front of her child. Reyes-Morales jumped out of a second story window and fled as Police arrived. A prior sexual assault attempt occurred over the weekend.

Assistant Police Chief Todd Erskine tells KICD News that the child’s actions were extraordinary.

The victim was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment. The was unharmed and placed with a friend of the family

Reyes-Morales was located and charged with a class B felony count of 1st Degree Burglary, a class C felony charge of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse , and a class D felony count of Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse. A hold has been placed on him by the US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement
