Cherokee Wastewater

Cherokee, IA (KICD) — The city of Cherokee found and repaired a wastewater leak.

The break in a 16-inch wastewater forcemain was reportedly repaired by mid afternoon. The city reported untreated wastewater discharging to a tributary of the Little Sioux River this morning shortly after discovering the break at 10:30 a.m.

The DNR recommends residents keep children and pets away from the area near 630 River Road for another 24 to 48 hours. The river should be safe for kayaking and other recreational activities as wastewater disperses and moves downstream.

The DNR is onsite and will continue to monitor the cleanup.
