Black Hills Energy AMI Project

Spencer, IA (KICD)–Black Hills Energy is looking to fully establish their Advance Metering Infrastructure project in Spencer.

Local Supervisor Heath Richter says currently a meter reader goes door to door to get meter readings. The AMI project will do away with that need.

Richter says they will be sending letter to all of their customers with gas meters in the coming weeks to inform them of the switch and hope to start the installation process in the first week of May.

The hope is to have all of the ERT’s installed by mid June and Black Hills will look to put up some poles to receive readings in the coming months. Black Hills says that wireless meter reading delivers greater efficiency, an improved billing process, and more immediate, accurate service transition when a customer moves.
