Beef Quality Assurance – A Commitment To Consumers

Estherville, IA: (Aug 22, 2014) – The Emmet County Cattlemen and the Beef Checkoff helped sponsor a Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program August 14 at the Iowa Lakes Electrical Company Building in Estherville. More than 50 area beef producers attended the program and became BQA Certified.

Iowa’s BQA certification program, which began in 1999, is fully funded with beef checkoff dollars. The BQA program has helped to inform beef producers about the latest management practices such as proper injection site techniques, record keeping practices, new industry on-farm BQA Assessments and has also helped to make consumers more aware of the extra efforts taken by Iowa producers to deliver safe, wholesome beef.

“The Iowa BQA program and what it represents is a vital component in keeping Iowa’s, and the U.S. beef supply safe and wholesome,” stated Gary Eckelburg, main organizer of the program and Emmet County Cattlemen Board member. “Additionally, those who participate in the program and adopt its principles are demonstrating their commitment to responsible beef production, not only to fellow beef producers, but to the packer, retailer and ultimately the consumer. BQA has an important role in all aspects of the beef production chain.”
