Bedell Family YMCA Projects Announced

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–There were two major announcements Thursday afternoon from the Bedell Family YMCA in Dickinson County.

First, the healthy living center will move from rented space across the highway from the Polaris Plant, to a new permanent home in the former Northwest Bank Building in downtown Spirit Lake.

Second, the Y will embark on a 1.6 million dollar fund-raising campaign to add an enhanced youth center onto the main facility. Board chair Jeff Vierkant says both projects are the result of a community survey.

The new youth complex will be added on to the North end of the current Bedell facility.

Northwest Bank Market President Joe Conover says his company wanted to make sure the vacated bank building in downtown was put to good use by the community, and has contributed 48 thousand dollars to help rennovate the 3 thousand square foot building.

Bedell Family YMCA CEO Norm Johnson will discuss both projects in depth with George Bower Monday morning on Newsradio 1240 KICD.
