Spencer, IA (KICD) — The first leg of the Missouri to the Mississippi Recipe Relay is coming to Spencer.
Iowa’s Aronia Berry Farm Healthy Choices and Main Street Thunder will be at Del’s Garden Center at 11-am Wednesday (today). Sawmill Hollow and farmers Trust Bank are teaming up to host the event.
The aronia berry is a dark pigmented fruit with triple the antioxidants of Brazil’s acai berry, making Spencer, one of the state’s first “Blue Zones”, a perfect fit to kick off the relay.
Farmers Trust Bank’s Heritage Club has coordinated three trips to Sawmill Hollow Family Farm, north of Missouri Valley during the relay, a precursor to Sawmill Hollow’s North American Aronia Berry Festival on September 20 and 21.
But the aronia berry won’t be the only ingredient on display. Andrew Pittz is a sixth generation Iowan family farmer, and will have “Main Street Thunder,” which aims to sew the seeds to reverse the 80% small business failure rate and decline in new business startups.
