(TOPS)–(#2) Area Storm Wrap
Undated (KICD)–Much of the region is dealing with the after effects of severe weather which hit the KICD area on Monday.
Tornadoes were reported at 3:43 three miles southeast of Larchwood: and at 7:22 last evening, one mile south of Laurens.
The city of Rock Valley was evacuated last night due to the rising Rock River and flooding, with reports saying the river crested 11 feet over flood stage. The mayor has declared a state of emergency. Residents were moved from their homes to shelters. Much sandbagging is underway and Highway 18 into Rock Valley is closed.
Dickinson County was hit hard as eight power poles snapped off one mile northwest of Superior while another 6-8 power poles snapped off at the base in Okoboji at the intersection of Highway 86 and 175th Street.
KICD’s George Bower was out last night to assess storm damage in Dickinson County.
A barn was knocked down 4.5 miles west of Melvin with a report of a roof coming off of a hog shed.
Rainfall amounts were as high as 5-8 inches inches, hail was a large as 1.75 inches five miles south-southwest of Terril , and winds reached up to 85 miles per hour in Jackson County, Minnesota in Lakefield.
Numerous power lines, trees, and branches were knocked down across the region. Travelers are asked to be aware for obstructions on the roadway as well as flooding.
In Clay County Highway 71 is closed south of the Rossie blacktop. Traffic is being rerouted to 170th Street due to flooding at Goat Hill.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff is asking that no one travels on county roads so crews can assess the damage. The roadway will be closed at the 3500 block of 480th Street west of Rush Lake. Water is over the road 2.5 miles east of Emmetsburg,
Interstate 90 is closed between Luverne and Adrian in Minnesota with no detours available.
