Spencer, IA (KICD)–Two from Spencer were arrested in connection to a string of car burglaries.

At 4:21 a.m. Spencer Police were called to the 1000 block of 23rd Avenue West to a report of a prowler in a car.  A man was spotted standing outside a car along with a female driver.  25-year-old Nikolas Harken was stopped after a short foot pursuit.  21-year-old Kirstyn Jones was eventually stopped in the car.

Harken was charged with four counts of 3rd degree burglary, 4th degree criminal mischief, and public intoxication.  He was held in Clay County Jail on a $4,000 bond.

Jones was charged with two counts of 3rd degree burglary two counts of aiding and abetting, possession of stolen property, OWI, and driving with a suspended license.  She was released after posting a $4,000 bond.

Other miscellaneous property was found and Spencer Police are asking for assistance identifying the stolen goods.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–An attempted mugging was reported early Sunday on the campus of Buena Vista University.

The victim told Police he was was walking in the 400 block of Grand Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. when he was grabbed from behind by a male subject who told the victim ” give me your wallet or I’ll stab you.”   No weapon was displayed. The victim did not comply with the suspect’s commands struck the attacker in his face.  He then fled on foot to Pierce-White Hall where he notified campus security.  The suspect also fled in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as white male, 6′ 2″ in height, medium build in his late 20′s or early 30′s.  He had short dark hair and glasses with a thick, dark frame.  The suspect was wearing a dark colored short sleeve shirt and dark colored blue jeans.  It is believed that the suspect was driving a late 1990′s or early 2000′s dark colored pick up truck possible with an extended cab with a rounded front end.  The suspect’s vehicle was last seen in the BVU parking lot located on the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and West 4th Street.

Storm Lake Police is asking anyone with information in connection with this incident to contact them immediately.

Laurens, IA (KICD) — A Monday search of a residence results in drug charges against a Laurens man.

Following an arrest by the Laurens Police Department of 32-year old Christina Eberle, on a warrant out of Buena Vista County, she was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.  Then later, the Pocahontas County Sheriffs Office executed the search warrant, at 49840 140th Avenue, in Pocahontas County.

During the search, approximately 47 grams of marijuana was found.  As a result, 30-year old Travis Miller, who also was a resident, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Miller was placed in the Pocahontas County Jail on a $6300 cash bond.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–An Omaha man was arrested this weekend following a domestic disturbance.

24-year-old Ryan Krebbs grabbed the victim by her throat and struck her while inside of a vehicle in Storm Lake.  In addition police were told that Krebbs allegedly assaulted the victim the day before at Casey’s East in Storm Lake where he reportedly injured the victim by striking her in the face.
Police arrested Krebbs at the scene and following an investigation charged him with a class D felony count of Domestic Assault Strangulation and Domestic Assault Causing Injury.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

The victim did not require medical attention.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–An alleged sexual assault at a Storm Lake Dyno’s occurred early Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old  female clerk told police that a male had entered the store shortly after 1:00 a.m. and attacked and sexually assaulted her inside of the store.  The victim was taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where she was treated and later released.

60-year-old Eufemio Vazquez-Velazquez of Lakeside was eventually tracked down and arrested on a class C felony count of 3rd Degree Sex Abuse and Assault.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
The Buena Vista County Sheriffs Department and the Sexual Assault Response Team assisted.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Felony meth charges were filed this weekend against a Storm Lake man.

Police tried to make contact with 33-year-old Keoothany  Tony Thongvanh at a home on Friday night.  Hew was found in the garage and attempted to flee but was apprehended.  A search of the home on Saturday turned up
methamphetamine packaged for street sales, a scale, paraphernalia, and packaging materials.  Tony was also allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a parole check at his residence in late March.

Charges on filed include a class C felony count of Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, a class D felony charged of Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd and Subsequent Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Thongvanh was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

A report has been filed with the Iowa Department of human Services as three small children who were not present during the arrest live at the residence.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–An Early man was arrested after he attempted to open a bank account in another person’s name.

It was found by Storm Lake Police that 42-year-old Edgar Chica allegedly did open a bank account under a false name at another bank in town and was employed under a false name in 2013.

Chica was arrested Friday on three class D felony counts of Forgery, a class D felony count of Identity Theft,  2 misdemeanor counts of Identity Theft, and Tampering With Records.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Graettinger,  IA (KICD)–Authorities are investigating criminal mischief in Graettinger.

Sometime between 2:00 and 5:00 Sunday morning someone used a 2-pound rubber hammer to break out a small sliding window on the south side of the Side Street Saloon.  Once inside the hammer was thrown through a large picture window.  The damage was estimated at $600.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office.

Sprit Lake, IA (KICD)–Dickinson County Deputies were called to a bonfire at the Horseshoe Bend Campground last Friday.

The four individuals there did not pay for a campsite and were there after hours .  The Dickinson County Sheriff s Office K-9, Sasha, was used to walk around the vehicles to check for illegal narcotics.  One of the deputies located drug paraphernalia that had been tossed and one of the juveniles admitted that it was theirs.
A subsequent consent search was performed in 1100 block of Okoboji Avenue in Milford.  Several pieces of drug paraphernalia and some marijuana were located in the juveniles’ rooms.

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–A Spencer man was arrested on drug charges following a Friday evening traffic stop by a Dickinson County Deputy.

An odor of pot led to a search of the car where drug paraphernalia was located.

30-year-old Michael Schwarting was charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and excessive speeding.

The juveniles were cited and released to their guardians.
