Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–Spirit Lake Police were led on a pursuit early Sunday morning.

33-year-old Timothy Higgins of Spirit Lake refused to stop for officers shortly after 2:00 a.m.  He led authorities on a chase through town and eventually onto eastbound Highway 9/71 on the way out of town.  Stop sticks were utilized at the Highway 9/71 junction to disable the tires.  The pursuit ended near the Dickinson/Emmet County line.

Higgins was placed in Dickinson County jail on charges of eluding, OWI 1st offense, traveling on the wrong side of the road, defective tires, improper brake light, failure to obey a flashing red light, four counts of failure to obey a stop sign, and six counts of failure to give a continuous turn signal.

Emmet County Deputies and Police from Arnolds Park and Milford assisted.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–An attempted stabbing amongst cousins landed a Storm Lake man in jail over the weekend.

Storm Lake Police were called to a report of a disturbance in progress early a Saturday morning.  It was alleged by witnesses that 19-year-old Win Tun got into an argument with his cousin.  He then armed himself with a knife with an 8 inch blade and attempted to stab his cousin as witnesses called 911.

Tun was taken into custody without incident and the knife was located and seized.  No injures were reported.

Following an investigation Tun was charged with a class D felony count of Going Armed With Intent and Domestic Assault While Displaying a Weapon.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Two individuals were caught setting off homemade explosive devices in rural Storm Lake.

Buena Vista County Deputies were called out shortly before 8:30.  The homemade explosives were rendered safe at the scene and the State Fire Marshal s Office was contacted to report the incident.

During the course of the investigation the occupants of the vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene were identified as 18-year-old Arturo Castro II of Ames and a 14-year-old male from Storm Lake.

Both were charged with Use of Explosives or incendiary devices and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree. The teen was released to a family member pending a future court date.  Castro was also cited for Interference with Official Acts and was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on $2,000 bond.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–A South Dakota man under the influence of prescription drugs was arrested after being found passed out in his running van at the Storm Lake Tyson Plant.

Police arrived to find 43-year-old Neil Olsson of Rapid City slumped over the steering wheel and the vehicle was reportedly running.  Police located and seized several prescription drugs in unlabeled containers from Olsson s van.

Later in the day when Olsson’s company vehicle was released from impound it was determined that the van had approximately $1,500 in damage to it.
A police investigation alleges that prior to Olsson’s arrest he was traveling in his van southbound on Radio road when he entered a ditch near the intersection with Expansion Blvd.  Olsson struck two poles while driving in the ditch.  He then proceeded northeast on the Furst McNess property and drove over landscaping lights before re-entering Expansion Blvd.

Olsson was charged by the Storm Lake Police Department with OWI and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs,  Striking Fixtures Upon a Highway, and Failure to Maintain Control.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.

No injuries were reported.
