A sports contract signed by baseball legend Babe Ruth has sold for a whopping $1 million at auction.

The paperwork was signed by the star when he joined Boston Red Sox in 1918, two years before moving to the New York Yankees, when his career took off.

The contract went up for auction in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday and eventually sold for a top bid of $1.02 million.

Other items sold as part of the Sports Legends Museum auction included a baseball bat signed by the star, which fetched $96,000, and a glove worn by Mickey Mantle, which sold for $180,000.
