Turkey Truck Overturns

Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — Sunday’s high winds caused a semi trailer full of turkeys to overturn.

The Sac County Sheriffs Office said the trailer contained 760 turkeys when it was blown over Sunday night on Highway 20.   The load was being taken to a processing plant in Storm Lake, when a malfunction in the semi, caused the driver to pull over.

After unhooking the trailer from the semi and disconnecting the power, the trailer was dollied, and that’s when it was blown over.  According to officials, about 70 percent of the turkeys died.  Emergency responders cut holes in the trailer to remove all the surviving turkeys and the dead ones.
