Orange City, IA (KICD) — A Storm Lake man receives additional prison time, on an escape charge
On Monday (today), in Sioux County District Court, County Attorney Coleman J. McAllister announced that 23-year old Shawn Boger was sentenced for the crime of Escape from Custody, a Class D Felony. .
Boger was confined at the Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) in Sheldon on a conviction for Theft in the First Degree, a Class C felony, in Buena Vista County in 2009. On February 17 of this year, Boger tore out a window screen in his bedroom and escaped from the RTF by climbing out the window. The RTF is a minimum security facility. Boger was arrested on April 26th.
Boger pled guilty to Escape and was sentenced to five years in prison. The Court ordered the prison term to be run consecutively to the 10-year prison sentence Defendant is already serving arising because of the Buena Vista County theft conviction. Defendant was also ordered to submit a DNA sample for DNA profiling as required by Iowa law.
McAllister prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of Iowa.
