Spencer, IA (KICD)–The Spencer City election candidates gathered Wednesday evening for a forum.
Three candidates are vying for the Ward 1 city council seat which is being vacated by George Kruger. Housing and economic development were hot topics with a focus on those issues by all candidates.
Elissa Barrick noted that she would like to attract and keep residents in town.
David Cagle noted that he would bring a common sense approach to the council if elected.
Frank Petska believes he has the time and energy to devote himself to the job.
One question posed to the candidates focused on how to make Spencer more attractive to prospective businesses. Petska says while there are plenty of great things about the town, building a strong workforce is key.
Barrick says Spencer is one of the country’s best kept secrets but believes more can be done to promote the city, especially to young professionals.
In addition to promotion of the town Cagle cited competitive wages and tax incentives.
KICD News will highlight the incumbents and candidates for the ata large city council seat on Friday and Monday.
