Lake Park, IA (KICD)–A fish kill on Silver Lake in Lake Park was reported earlier this week.
Iowa DNR Fisheries Management Biologist Mike Hawkins tells KICD News they found several thousand dead white or silver bass.
Hawkins says the fish likely contracted some type of a viral or bacterial infection and are likely dying off. It is likely that the disease will not affect any other species.
If you run across any dead fish on your shoreline Hawkins recommends burying them in a shallow hole along the shoreline or moving them to a compost pile.
