Semi Vs. Train Accident

Spencer, IA (KICD)–No injuries were reported in a Monday morning semi versus train accident in Spencer.

22-year-old Travis Douma of Remsen told Spencer Police that he was heading south on 10th Avenue East when he looked to the west for a train on the tracks at 5th Street. When Douma looked to the east he saw a slowly approaching westbound train and wasn’t able to stop due to the icy road conditions. Douma tried to speed up but the trailer on his 2003 Peterbilt Semi, which was loaded with scrap metal, was struck by the Iowa, Chicago, and Eastern 6414 locomotive.

MInor damage was reported to both the semi and train.

Douma was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a yield sign.
