Spencer, IA (KICD)–A food condiment company is eyeing Spencer as a possible new home.
Iowa Lakes Corridor President and CEO Kathy Evert tells KICD News that the Hensall Condiments Corporation is headed by an owner out of California.
Evert says this project has been bandied about now for around a year.
Evert says there are a lot of steps to take before this project could become a reality. The first step is to rezone the property on the Green Industrial Center Site which will be taken up by the Spencer Planning and Zoning Commission with a public hearing at their July 31st meeting at 8:00 a.m.
Evert says it is possible to see construction start up on the proposed 150,000 square foot home this year. The company would initially employ around 100 with very good wage levels with the possibility of growing to 250 within 3 years.
According to the Hensall’s website this project is strategically located in Iowa to take advantage of the large spent hen population in the region. Iowa is the largest egg production state in the US and the spent hen is a very affordable source of quality chicken protein for the Company’s proprietary granular products. This project was reviewed by experts at Iowa State University. They completed an extensive feasibility study focused in five areas including Economic, Technical, Markets, Financial and, Management. The Study Team determined the project was well planned, viable and positioned for success.
