Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Fire investigators are crediting the use of a “fire suppression grenade” for extinguishing and stopping the spread of a mobile home fire.
The Storm Lake Fire and Police Departments were called to a home at 600A West 8th Street just before 12:30 on Friday afternoon. Police arrived to find the home to be evacuated and the home owner attempting to fight the fire with a garden hose. A “fire suppression grenade” was then thrown through a broken window in an attempt to slow the burning fire until the arrival of the fire department. Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered the residence and extinguished any remaining fire. Fire damage was contained to the bathroom area of the residence.
After investigation it was alleged that 12-year-old Nathan Sriharath was playing with matches and accidentally set the mobile home on fire while his parents were asleep. He was charged with Reckless Use of Fire. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Damage to the residence is estimated at $7,000.00. No injuries were reported.
