Jacmel, Haiti (KICD)–A Spencer based non-profit is set to take a huge step.
Barb Wilkerson with Love Takes Root tells KICD News that they have a pair of groups set to visit Haiti this Saturday and next Thursday to open the LaConcorde Orphanage, a project three years in the making.
There have been 52 children living in a makeshift 300 square foot room since the 2010 earthquake that destroyed a very small space in Port-Au-Prince. Their living conditions are substandard at best with no toilets or running water.
The LaConcorde Orphanage will allow the youth there to have a safe living environment that includes clean
water and food, an English immersion school and clinic, while teaching them skills for sustainabilityfor their future.
The first group heading out this Saturday includes Barb and Rick Wilkerson, Keetah Dodson, Doug Hart, and Kirk Stauss. Another group will head to Haiti next week.
