Ruthven, IA (KICD)–Continued warm water is being pinpointed as the cause of a minor fish kill at Lost Island Lake.
Ken Hessenius with the Iowa DNR tells KICD News after receiving a number of reports staff counted 74 dead fish, mostly walleye, at the shore on Sunday.
Hessenius says the most likely reasoning for the dead fish is an infection of some sort.
Hessenius says that walleye like a cooler temperature of water and it is believed that once the water cools down there will be less stress on the fish.
The fishery was not greatly affected and good walleye fishing is still expected at Lost Island.
