Spencer, IA (KICD)–Two teens escaped from a Sunday evening rollover without injury.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a 2004 Honda Accord traveling west on 300th St crossed over 210th Ave and began to lose control at 9:19 p.m. The driver, a 17-year-old female from Fostoria, overcorrected and entered the south ditch. The vehicle rolled over onto its top. A 16-year-old male from Spencer was a passenger in the vehicle.
Both the driver and passenger were able to get out of the vehicle and call 911. They were each examined by Spencer Paramedics and released at the scene to parents.
The Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Ambulance, and Fostoria Fire and Rescue assisted on scene.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain control.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Three Storm Lake men were arrested after firing a gun over the weekend.
Authorities were called to 318 West 9th Street on Sunday afternoon after a .40 caliber gun was found lying in the yard. Police collected the weapon and upon examination found it to be loaded with the wrong caliber ammunition. The weapon had been fired once and was jammed.
After investigation it was alleged that 18-year-olds David Mulgae and Bidong Yak and 17-year-old Gilo Akwai were at a party early Sunday morning. An argument with a fourth person occurred and all three were told to leave the party. The three left the party and acquired a handgun for the purpose of returning to the party and confronting the person who told them to leave. After acquiring the semi-automatic weapon they returned to the area of the party, parked several blocks away and approached the residence on foot. Prior to arriving at the party police allege that Akwai test fired the gun to insure it worked. The gun reportedly fired and then jammed. The group reportedly then dropped the weapon and fled in case the gunshot was reported to police.
All three were charged with a class D felony count of Going Armed With Intent and Carrying a Weapon. Akwai was additionally charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. The adults were held in Buena Vista County jail on a $5,000 cash bond. Akwai was taken to the youth Detention Facility in Cherokee.
No injures were reported
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–A stolen IPad was found lying in the yard of a Storm Lake home on Monday night.
Storm Lake Police examined the IPad and located on it information that reflected it belonged to St. Mary’s School and was stolen in April. Police collected information off of the IPad and identified 18-year-old Bidong Yak of Storm Lake as a suspect in the theft.
Yak was located and charged with 4th degree theft. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.
