Paullina, IA (KICD)–Three were hospitalized following an accident last Wednesday in O’Brien County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 55-year-old Cindy Callenius of Hospers and 65-year-old Marlys Hartong of Paullina were both heading west on Highway 10 shortly before 9:30 p.m. Hartong wanted to turn left onto Oak Hill Avenue,activated her turn signal, and turned left. Callenius says that she saw a right turn signal and began to pass in the intersection. At this time Callenius struck Hartong’s 2003 Ford Van with her 2005 Buick Rendezvous in the left side. Both vehicles entered the ditch on the southwest side of the intersection.

Both drivers were taken to Orange City Hospital by Paullina Ambulance. A passenger, 68-year-old Steven Hartong, was taken to Orange City Hospital by their ambulance crew.

Further investigation found that Hartong’s left turn signal and brake light were not functioning. Hartong was cited for improper rear lamp. Callenius was cited for passing in an intersection

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Storm Lake Police were called fight in progress shortly after 8:00 Thursday morning with information that one of the involved parties was armed with a large rock.

Police arrived on scene and found 37-year-old Lenke Keye and 41-year-old Lussia Wehidye of Storm Lake bleeding from head wounds. Witnesses told police that the two women allegedly engaged in a fight at which time Keye reportedly struck Wehidye in the head and face several times with a broken piece of cement and Wehidye struck Keye in the face and head with a set of keys.

Wehidye sustained lacerations to her face and head and was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by ambulance where she was treated and released back to the custody of the police.
Keye sustained several minor lacerations and a puncture wound to her face and head as well as an injury to a tooth. She was transported to the medical center where she also was treated and released to the custody of the police.

Following an investigation police charged Wehidye with a class D felony count of Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Disorderly Conduct. She was booked into Buena Vista County jail on a $5,300 cash bond.

Keye was charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Disorderly Conduct. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,300 cash bond.

Buena Vista County Paramedics assisted on scene.

Cherokee, IA (KICD)–Three Cherokee men face drug charges following an executed search warrant Thursday afternoon.

Cherokee Police arrested 21-year-old Cody Boger, 18-year-old Brady Freeburg, and 26-year-old Shawn Hand.

Charges filed against Boger and Freeburg include possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Boger was charged with tattooing without a permit.

Hand was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

All three men were placed in the Cherokee County Jail.

Sioux City, IA (KICD)–A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Guatemala was sentenced this week.
In May 23-year-old Casimiro Chilel-Lopez admitted he had been deported from the United States.
Chilel-Lopez came to the attention of Homeland Security Investigations in March while he was incarcerated in the Sioux County, Iowa, jail forproviding false identification.
Chilel-Lopez was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment. He must also serve a 1-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
