Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–A scam artist from Waterloo was recently caught.
In mid August Storm Lake Police took a report of an incident which occurred at Wal-Mart. 34-year-old Shannon Cannon allegedly reported to the store employees that she had come to the Storm Lake Store and, while in the restroom at the store, the toilet backed up and damaged her clothing and a receipt for merchandise she was about to return to the store. As a result of the alleged accident the store gave Cannon new clothing and refunded her for the merchandise she reportedly was returning. In addition Wal-Mart had to contact a plumber for the damaged toilet in their restroom resulting in a bill for approximately $1,200.
After investigation it was learned that Cannon was a suspect in a similar type of reported accident in Wal-Mart Stores in approximately ten cities across Iowa and Minnesota during the month of August.
Police issued warrants for Cannon charging her with a class D felony count of 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief and 5th Degree Theft. She was arrested in Missouri last week and is currently being held pending extradition back to Iowa.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
Rock Valley, IA (KICD)–A Rock Valley woman was life flighted following a Monday morning accident.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Karen Hulstein was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer northbound at 7:13 a.m. on Fig Avenue, southeast of Rock Valley, when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the west ditch, rolled and struck a cattle fence.
Hulstein was extracted from the vehicle by Rock Valley Fire and Rescue, using their rescue equipment. She was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley by the Rock Valley Ambulance and was later transferred by helicopter to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Spencer, IA (KICD)–A Spencer woman was arrested on Monday.
Following investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office 43-year-old Teri Stevenson was arrested on two counts of identity theft.
Stevenson was released from Clay County jail after posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond.
Spencer, IA (KICD)–A Spencer man was jailed for possession of drug paraphernalia on Monday.
24-year-old Cameron Shuck was picked up by a Clay County Deputy on a court committal Monday afternoon. He was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia at this time.
Shuck was held in Clay County Jail on a $300 cash or surety bond.
Sioux Center, IA (KICD)–Theft and drug charges have been filed against a Hawarden man.
A report of a stolen Dodge Durango from a Sioux Center home was investigated by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning. The SUV was later found parked at the intersection of Coolidge Avenue and 370th Street, 12 miles northwest of Sioux Center.
The sheriff’s office K9 unit was able to track 19-year-old Matthew Zinnel to his residence at 3721 Coolidge Avenue, 11 miles northeast of Hawarden. While investigating the stolen vehicle deputies were able to link Zinnel to other thefts in the area. He was found in possession of a 2012 Honda Recon ATV that had been reported stolen earlier this month from a Sioux County resident and cash, also believed to be stolen.
The Sioux Center Police Department charged Zinnel with 2nd degree theft, 5th degree theft and 3rd degree burglary of a motor vehicle for the theft of the Durango. The Sheriff’s Office charged him with two counts of 3rd degree burglary, 2nd degree theft, 3rd degree theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
